[读书笔记] 丁尼生 《尤利西斯》 节选

本杰明格雷厄姆八十岁生日爬梯上对儿孙们做了个演讲,演讲最后以这一段诗作结尾。这首诗是写老年的,不过我看了后觉得很受激励,就抄录下来以作自勉:

* D% a; {2 `. B( e$ a'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.1 T3 v: t6 T6 F

4 ?7 o* _$ Y* `9 k, w5 ~5 c6 S; UPush off, and sitting well in order smite
3 }: h! \; S6 |" m2 u! q 6 L+ }+ m9 N6 y) u
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds6 W, O4 _  X6 q4 H

! u% t9 z) Y# ^8 |% x/ g+ u$ PTo sail beyond the sunset, and the baths: }( @* ?' e+ N  ?' L0 ]) l1 }6 Z! j- T+ ]

1 R8 K  M$ ^, {. s, OOf all the western stars,until I die.% G6 e6 [+ N, v2 [5 J1 a

3 H- r9 ]4 W3 iIt may be that the gulfs will wash us down;
8 ?7 V" |1 v) {# O6 a3 C
, F) T  x1 v7 P. M% e/ z0 ^It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
7 w! Y5 p8 X% [2 ~! N3 } ( W$ E! Y+ U$ X/ W+ L
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though/ y- ?: h4 o5 C, U4 @% Q3 N. B

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are
