• Boy and the Butterfly was one of a number of complementary designs featuring anglicized 'bubble-head' Chinese figures. It is derived by imitation and adaptation from fashionable imported Chinese Export porcelain designs. Similar patterns to New Hall Boy and the Butterfly pattern 421 are found on Staffordshire Minton and Miles Mason. On some pieces – usually teabowls, the "bug" is found as a caterpillar, on others it has become a butterfly with wings added."

• Here is a splendid and eye-catching teapot made by the New Hall porcelain factory around 1810. It has one of New Hall’s very popular designs of a Chinoiseries or Chinese-inspired scene, with decoration that was first transfer-printed in black and then hand-enameled with glazes to bring it to a colorful perfection. It resembles the perennially favorite pattern 425, the Boy in a Window pattern, and the overall look is similar. This pattern 621 shows several Chinese ladies in a garden terrace or courtyard, and it looks like one lady has prepared some food for them to eat. It is ten and three-quarters inches from stem to stern. New Hall made a couple of shapes in this basic oval form, called the New Oval shape. David Holgate, in his book on New Hall, calls this kind of oval teapot “boat shaped” and notes that the front edge of the lip resembles a ship’s prow, which is not included on some of the teapots. The shape was popular until the factory switched over to bone china from hard paste porcelain, after which it made squarish teapots almost entirely.
